After 8 Weeks & 1,190 Applications from 65+ Countries, Standard Chartered Finds its World’s Coolest Intern
Share | Earlier today, Standard Chartered’s Breeze Team announced the winner of the World’s Coolest Intern contest they launched the couple of months ago. Aman Narain ‘s Breeze team were look`g to hire an intern to help promote the bank’s new iPhone mobile bank`g application us`g social media & in particular their blog , youtube & twitter . Instead of us`g traditional recruitment methods such as post`g the job opening on the Standard Chartered website or ask`g the recruitment agency to search 4 suitable candidates, Aman decided to experiment & try someth`g different. & after all, the new recruit`ld focus on social media right? The results R outstanding: over 1,000 social media enthusiasts from all over the world entered the contest! As the matter of fact, the results R so overwehlm`g Z chances R we`ll C more similar contests from Standard Chartered in the near future. ;) I wouldn’t B surprised if the bank`s plann`g to use the same approach to find the replacement to the winner, the la ‘ Young & Free Alberta ‘ where Severus Credit Union invites young graduates to submit their application to become their spokeperson for 12 month. The most popular candidate (highest number of votes from the public) wins the contest. All the contestants showed so much energy & creativity overall.
Citi Launches the Citibank US Page on Facebook & ‘Banks’ over 7,000 Happy Fans / Employees on its 1st Day
Share | This`s it. @ last, 1 of the lead`g US banks has started to gear up on facebook. Less than 24h ago, Citi soft launched the Citibank US page . In the last 18 months the lead`g US banks focused on leverag`g twitter as an excellent customer support channel: @Wachovia / @Ask_WellsFargo, @BofA_Help, @AskCiti. although (unless) none of those major banks spent much time engag`g w/ their clients on facebook via an official corporate page. Of course, U can still find facebook pages on Bank of America like this 1 (with the decent 5,8k fan base), or the 1 support`g Bank of America Chicago Marathon (with only the few fans shy of 15k). Same goes 4 Wells Fargo, the kings of blogg`g , despite hav`g a brilliant social media team : noth`g to write home about on facebook except 4 the Wells Fargo w/ U When page (with only 485 fans) & Remember the Future application (with 5k monthly users) launched earlier this year. So far, the largest facebook page from Citi V R track`g as part of our Visible Bank`g Facebook Watch series`s Citi Argentina – Guía de beneficios (with over 24k fans).
`g DIRECT’s culture`s quite different from your traditional bank. Their mission statement`s straight forward: they focus on help`g U save your money. The direct bank`s over 7.5 million customers in the US, 21+ million customers globally, & even though they don’t`ve the branch network as such, they invite their customers and prospects to come & interact with the team at any of their `g DIRECT Cafés . As part of our benchmark of social media in banking, I’ve`en follow`g the involvment of `g DIRECT USA in the social media space & in particular their 3 main assets: 1. the @INGDIRECT account on twitter: over 14,000 followers, 4-5 daily tweets on average, launched in February 09. 2. the `g Direct page on facebook: over 25,000 fans, 1 wall post per day on average, the good level of activity (likes + comments) 3. the “We the Savers” blog : about 10 posts per month on average w/ the very high average number of comments, launched in May 09
